One of our top ten houseplants to slay toxins and vapor pollutants in our interior spaces is the dramatic and sculptural Dragon Tree (Dracaena marginata). This is an excellent choice not only for removing toxic chemicals from your air (xylene and trichloroethylene), and replacing them with purifying oxygen, but it excels at being a very easy to grow house and office plant.
It has banded, grey, erect canes that bear long, narrow dark green leaves, most with a thin margin of red at the edges. The leaves cluster at the tops of the canes. This plant also tolerates bright light to shady spots and prefers to get quite dry, especially in the winter. It is one of the most durable plants we know. It is mostly pest free, but it is not a safe plant for small children or pets. The Dragon Tree is a great choice for healthy and natural purification of your air without much fuss.
