Alden Lane comes alive in October with colorful and artistic scarecrows posing around the nursery. This scarecrow building contest is for anyone who has an imagination and loves to have fun! You can enter as a group or individually – families are encouraged to have fun building together. It is tons of fun for everyone!
If you don’t want to build, just come to watch and enjoy the fun. Warning – you’ll want to join in. These are not your ordinary scarecrows. Each one is a work of art!
Please call ahead to register to reserve your frame. We have four fun
categories to choose from:
Jungle Cruise
Set sail with your favorite jungle friends on a rustic riverboat in search of adventure. Take a walk on the wild side and make your favorite animal(s) or ride scenes come to life!
Music Legends
Will it be some old-time rock ‘n roll? Maybe a current mega hitmaker? Perhaps a country great? All generations and genres of music are welcome. The possibilities for inspiring musical icons are endless.
Level Up!
It is time to bring your favorite virtual characters into the real world. Increase your difficulty and make your video games a reality!
Traditional
This is the scarecrow from down on the farm. You can use burlap, denim overalls, buttons, flannel shirts and anything recycled will help bring this hard worker to life.
Important Details:
• We provide the wooden frame and the straw to fill your scarecrow.
• You provide the imagination and clothing/accessories/props to decorate your scarecrow.
• Plan to build your scarecrows to withstand strong winds and rain.
• Do not use a fresh pumpkins for the head. They don’t last.
• Scarecrow clothing and accessories must be picked up between Monday, November 1st and Wednesday, November 3rd. After Wednesday, November 3rd, clothing and props will be donated to a local charity.
This contest is judged by the public. Scarecrows must be left on display at Alden Lane Nursery through Sunday, October 31st. Voting takes place in person at Alden Lane from Monday, October 11th until Saturday, October 30th. We’ll post winners on our website on November 1st. Winners receive a ribbon, recognition on our social media and lots of bragging rights!
